A Glimpse at Eagle’s Wings Mobile Food Pantry

December volunteers in Aurora.

Apart from distributing food at Eagle’s Wings home location on W. 3rd street, Eagle’s Wings staff and volunteers serve the hungry of Beaufort County with homebound delivery, Eaglet Pals (elementary-age children), and a mobile food pantry.  The mobile food pantry is designed to serve the under-served south of the Pamlico River.  Eagle’s Wings does not do this alone.  We purchase food from the Food Bank of the Albemarle and partner with local churches and volunteers for distribution.  One very strong partner church in Aurora is Dublin Grove Freewill Baptist Church and our major partner in Chocowinity is the Haw Branch Church of Christ.  The pictures below detail is what is involved in a typical mobile food distribution.

When the food arrives from the Food Bank of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City, volunteers sort and bag it for individual distribution.

While the food has been prepped, volunteers get information from our clients to gather statistics on who we have served.  Once the food is prepped, volunteers load food to the clients as they drive through.

Clients can show up with all kinds of vehicles!

Once the food has been distributed or the time period for serving has passed, we pack it up and are on our way.  If you have any questions about the mobile food pantry or would like to get involved, visit this website, which details where you can call or visit.
